'You wanna go where everybody knows your name.'
Welcome to Season 2 of The Gen X Journey!
It was one of the most iconic TV sitcoms in the '80s and '90s. 'Cheers' came into our living rooms weekly, providing laughs from every angle, including the weird facts spewed from Cliff Claven, the yells of 'NORM!', and the baseball hero Sam Malone's 'Casanova like' quests.
Today we talk about several things you might not have known about Cheers, thanks to a great article by Jennifer M Wood over at www.mentalfloss.com.

When we began developing the concept of 'The Gen X Journey', it was our goal to focus on two areas. 1. We wanted to create a brand that honored the history of Generation X. 2. We wanted to be a partner and a resource for our Generation X peers, providing support as we continue our journey through life together. Using the word 'Journey' in our title was intentional, and we are proud to be on life's journey with each of you!
To that point, we are excited to share our first in a planned lineup of topics intended to be of assistance to Gen X individuals as we continue life's journey. Our first topic is one that we have received a lot of interest in over the last few weeks, and is timely for us releasing this episode in September. We are in the season of life where many of us have children who have either gone off to college, or have children who have begun their lives beyond the walls of their parents home. For parents, this can oftentimes lead to feelings of sadness, emptiness, and loneliness. This period, called 'The Empty Nest Syndrome', is an issue that faces tens of thousands of parents each year.
We are honored to have Shana L. Gordy MMFT on our show today. Shana is a Marriage and Family Consultant based in the Houston, TX area. We have a great conversation with Shana about the Empty Nest Syndrome, and she shares some thoughts and resources to help point individuals struggling in the right direction. Shana can be contacted through her website at www.memorialvillagewellness.com .
She also mentions two books to help with the Empty Nest Syndrome:
'Barbara and Susan's Guide to the Empty Nest Syndrome' by Barbara Raineyand Susan Yates (order on Amazon https://a.co/d/07pAvso)
'From Mom to Me Again' by Melissa Shultz (order on Amazon https://a.co/d/2nPzN1T)
Friends, if you are struggling with this or any other topic, please don't let this show be a substitute for finding professional help that is tailored to help you and your specific needs. We encourage and support you to get the help you need to succeed in life!
